Gualapack SpA - Tethered CAP
Tethered CAP ACCESSIBLE | CONTEMPORARY | SUSTAINABLE
What it is. At the forefront in proposing eco-sustainable solutions, with an eye to the end user, Gualapack has designed Tethered CAP following the proposals of the Single Use Plastic directive (in force since 2024), whose main objective is the reduction of single-use plastic waste in the environment. The new cap - of which different solutions have been engineered to leave customers wide freedom of choice and customization - is equipped with a lanyard connected to the "tamper-proof" system which, in turn, remains locked to the straw: therefore, high standards of tightness and safety are guaranteed.
Materials. Plastic
Product content or target market. Baby food, drinks and snacks.
Design and/or communication. The cap is made up of three essential parts: Core (sealing system inside, design development outside), Ring (ring that hooks the cap onto the straw and which, coupled with Core, acts as a tamper-proof system) and lanyard (junction area between the two parts, which allows the cap to remain attached to the straw). In the various designs created, we distinguish: anti-suffocation versions and a smaller, more economical version. Moreover, hooking systems have been designed for greater comfort during use.
Technology. Three patents have been registered for these caps, whose strongpoints are the tethered cap and its functions, the tamper-proof system and the cap hooking mode during use. Tethered CAP has been entirely developed in-house (from design to production and validation) which, in addition to the added value of sustainability, has achieved the objective of having caps that are easy to use even by children, given that the effort required to open them has been reduced by 50%.
Sustainability. Of Tethered CAP, Gualapack emphasizes recyclability and compliance with the Single Use Plastic Directive, but also describes it as a means of promoting the Second Life of packaging.
