A different open&close on the shelves of mass retail distribution

A “three handed” project for a new open&close label: Monviso is proud to pave the way with a packaging with VELCRO® Brand closure, made with Etipack technology.

A lively and well-attended conference at Ipack-Ima, for the presentation of a joint project, the result of  joint action between different stakeholders: an original open&close system for packaging Monviso “Coppoli” snacks, devised thanks to the cooperation between Etipack, leading company in the labeling and coding sector (that has been cooperating with Monviso for many years now) and Velcro Companies. The Swiss multinational was involved, under initiative from Etipack, in supplying the closure labels created using the typical “hook” system famous the world over*.
A brilliant intuition that enhances a bakery product prepared with quality ingredients (extravirgin olive oil, prime sesame seeds and flour) where flavor and freshness are the distinguishing features to be best highlighted and preserved; function that this “open&close” packaging performs perfectly, drawing the attention of consumers and mass retail distribution.

How the technology works

On the technical side, the solution offers various points of interest.
First of all, the advantage for the consumer: the VELCRO® Brand label in fact, as well as being sturdier than traditional adhesive labels, that lose their adherence with use, keeps its effectiveness after repeated usage.
The snack producer, for its part, was able to rely on a consolidated solution by Etipack: the Energy labeler of the new generation e-way line. Launched in November 2013, the line constitutes the sector’s technological leading edge, thanks to its hybrid stepper motor retrodriven by magnetic encoders: structured as a separate block, to be positioned at the end of the packaging line, the labeler has a reduced footprint that further facilitates its incorporation.
On top of that, its “standard” but modular conception has enabled it to be suited to the specific needs of the customer, retouching or expanding the “basic” configuration thanks to the installation of special components and accessories.
Etipack has thus been able to adapt Energy to the specific criticalities of the project, that consist in having to apply a VELCRO® Brand closure that is much thicker than usual.
In particular the machine has been equipped with:
• blade and photostop for applying thick material;
• draw and thrust unit, capable of absorbing differences in thickness;
• thicker rollers that follow through the unwinding of the roll;
• paper and stretch plastic saving shaft that facilitates the removal of the elastic substrates.

*NOTE The invention of the VELCRO® Brand closure has an interesting history: the idea came to Georges de Mestral who, after a stroll in the countryside, noticed he had tiny red flowers sticking to his jacket. Examining them under a microscope he discovered that the flowers had small hooks on their calyx, thanks to which they got stuck to the loops formed by the hairs of the jacket fabric. The mechanism was reproduced in nylon and patented in 1955
