Factory: automation models
A demonstration model that incorporates the best of the factory automation offer, showing several interdependent moving and handling elements: on show at Parma the Sew Eurodrive M2014.
Sophisticated and effective the presentation fielded by Sew Eurodrive at the last SPS/IPC/Drives Italy. In little more than 20 square meters, visitors could see a wide range of SEW Eurodrive components interact with each other to create an optimal automation system featuring flexibility and modularity. And also great economy: mobile and stationary solutions, simple conveyor belt movements and complex tackling of interpolated axes according to a Scara type logic of kinematic transformation were synchronized and connected up via the standard Ethernet ports available in the Movi-PLC and Movipro series, with great immediacy and at no additional cost. Skillfully exploited also the MultiMotion motion control libraries package, via which several axes, interpolated according to precise kinematic laws, can be easily controlled.
An interdependent system
The M2014 unit includes coordinated and interdependently operating AGVs and robots.
•The automatic guided vehicles (AGV), commonly used in assembly and conveying lines of many industries, use a system of contactless energy transfer called Movitrans®. In a nutshell, a stationary part, placed in the main electrical panel, converts the common three-phase current into medium intensity current and frequency by a current generator, channeled through a pair of cables positioned under the floor. The AGV is equipped with one or more pick-ups that capture the energy from the cables and turns it back into voltage, this time continuous, used to power the Movipro. It is the element that, in the body of the vehicle, receives the commands, identifies the situations and operates the inverter according to the task to be carried out: linear or curvilinear routes, that the vehicle follows automatically, and rotational movements on the spot, that enable maneuvering in tight spaces, without contact and without tracks or guides on the floor.
• The double Scara robot on show, made up of two independent arms, is controlled by a Movi-PLC, presented by Sew Eurodrive as one of the most interesting Motion Control PLCs on the market, primarily for the ease with which it enables the control of a complex kinematic structure. Only a few hours of configuration to get your MultiMotion package with “kinematics “ package included: a universal software platform for all the Movi- PLCs - once the number of axes in the machine, their type and their kinematic configuration have been defined - that enables the development of complex motion sequences with simple predetermined commands.
The robot brought to SPS comprises two Scara units that can operate individually, for tracking and handling, or in a synchronized manner when the AGV is at a standstill. At Parma however Sew created a true and proper system of interdependent units, with various qualifying elements: the conveyor driven by Movigear; the robot electric control panel equipped with modular Moviaxis inverters that directly control the 8 axes of the two Scaras; UCS50B modules to perform safety stop, speed and position functions according to the preset performance level...
The super controller and the friendly panel
The two central elements of the complete system fielded by Sew Eurodrive are Movi-PLC Power and the DOP11C panel.
Especially suited for high-end applications, the Movi-PLC Power UHX71B is a highly powerful dual core processor, which also has the same tools and the same method of programming of the Standard and Advanced Movi-PLCs, and can therefore handle already finished work. In the M2014 automation model the Movi-PLC Power serves as the application controller: it coordinates all the functions and guides the correct execution of the work cycle.
Lastly, a mention of how important it is to have the right operator panel. The DOP11C -150, which represents the upper range of new DOP11C Sew Eurodrive, displays the system status and enables the simple and intuitive issuing of commands. The display with 1280x800 resolution is equipped with a sturdy 15.4” screen with integrated touchscreen.
