Rethinking the ownership model for digital label production

The way converters access digital printing is changing. Ecolyne introduces a new approach, combining Flint Group Digital Xeikon’s dry‑toner technology with a business model that transforms access to production capacity. Designed as a completely new platform, it makes high‑quality label printing more accessible, particularly for companies seeking flexibility without major upfront investments.

Traditionally, entering digital printing requires significant capital expenditure for equipment purchase, along with ongoing costs for maintenance and consumables. Ecolyne overcomes this barrier with a “capacity‑on‑demand” subscription model: instead of purchasing the press, customers pay a monthly fee for a defined print volume. The service includes the machine, service and consumables, enabling converters to align costs with actual production needs and maintain predictable operating expenses.

“From a technological perspective, Ecolyne builds on Xeikon’s long‑standing expertise in dry‑toner electrophotography. It uses standard QB toner, which is food‑contact safe and capable of delivering consistent print quality”, explains Danny Mertens, Marketing Manager at Flint Group Xeikon. “The system offers resolutions of up to 1200 dpi, printing in up to five colours, and is compatible with a wide range of substrates, including paper, polypropylene, polyethylene and PET films, ensuring versatility for modern label production”.

A key differentiating factor is the focus on essential functionality. By removing advanced features that are often unnecessary, the system is optimised for the core requirements of standard labels. This simplification results in a more cost‑effective solution, while retaining the reliability and quality that characterise Xeikon technology.

Manufactured in Belgium, the press leverages the global expertise of Flint Group Digital Xeikon and is designed to integrate with finishing solutions from local partners, allowing converters to build complete, customised production workflows.

Ecolyne also reflects broader market trends: shorter runs, faster turnaround times and increased personalisation make flexibility a critical factor. Traditional ownership models can limit this flexibility, particularly for smaller businesses. By offering printing as a service, Xeikon enables converters to respond more quickly to market demands while simultaneously reducing financial risk.

With initial installations planned from 2026 and a first launch in the Asia‑Pacific region, Ecolyne represents a new access point to digital label printing, built around scalability, efficiency and ease of adoption.
