A team for packaging

Investments in new automation technologies, new resources and a new center of excellence in the “heart” of Italian packaging. With these foundations, Siemens confirms its focus on the needs of the packaging sector and presents the super-specialized PackTeam. Team objectives: market synergy and tailored service.

Claudio Giulianetti
Packaging Team Manager Siemens Industry

Siemens is overhauling its structural organization in order to better serve automatic machinery builders: indeed, understanding packaging in the widest possible sense (food&beverage, non food, pharma and tobacco), the company can supply advanced systems capable of covering the automation needs of any type of application, from filling and packaging to end of line. And whether for safety, long-distance assistance, energy efficiency or networks, the integrated solutions proposed by Siemens are in line with the demands of today’s packaging industry.
«Because in an evolving global market, but especially in a macroeconomic situation as complex and difficult as the current one, we felt obligated to commit fully and personally to guaranteeing our partners with flexibility, productivity and efficiency, the sine qua non of making increasingly competitive and high tech machinery».
This statement by Claudio Giulianetti, manager of the “PackTeam” of Siemens, who adds «The PackTeam project has been created by Siemens Italia. Now the German mother company shares its subsidiary’s objectives and strategy, supplying specific support and reproducing its philosophy in certain fields, for example in the food&beverage end market.

The idea, conceived in 2012, resulted in the formation of a team in February 2013, which has proven to be an important step in an “investment in the future” that betrays a desire to pay careful attention to the packaging sector, on which Siemens will continue to draw for innovation and to which, at the same time, it offers high quality automation consulting and products.
«All this in the spirit of excellence, of course,» the manager adds, explaining: «an excellence that results from sound knowledge of the automatic machinery market on the part of team members, as well as from competencies acquired on the Siemens products and solutions capable of guaranteeing a quick ROI».
The group will thus follow its customers up close, supplying qualified answers on the fly, with the goal of guaranteeing users with real added value.
On this topic, Giulianetti confirms «The PackTeam offers itself as a genuine project management team capable of interacting in the pre-sales phase, studying applications and developing software, up to post-sales.
It will work alongside application engineers operating in the Packaging Competency Center (in addition to Bologna, also operating in Milan and Padua, Editor’s note), who for their part will continue to handle technical support in the stricter sense. In short, PackTeam means an assembly of experts with competencies in products, solutions and market, tasked with supporting packaging machine builders in the ordinary running of their business, offering technology and market consulting»

New location, new prospects
PackTeam will take advantage of the possibilities offered by the renovated building of the Bologna branch of Siemens Italia.
Conceived as a low-impact building integrated in a complex known as the Business Park, where the surrounding architectural elements are consonant with the park and its bicycle- and footpaths, the new headquarters occupies a surface of more than 670 square meters.
This site also features laboratories, show rooms and conference rooms to help the team establish and cultivate direct contacts with customers.
«From this location we will be working with a clear orientation toward service - concludes Giulianetti - which means we have yet another thing in common with Italian packaging machine builders (which, it almost goes without saying, continue to dominate the market).
Having identified them as privileged interlocutors, Siemens can now share another certainty, namely that innovation and research are key factors to success: a success that can be achieved first and foremost by combining knowhow and specific experiences and developing shared projects».
