Compact, intuitive, efficient and robust
Characteristics and advantages guaranteed by PowerXL, the new variable frequency drives by Eaton.
With rating range up to 250 kW, the new PowerXL variable frequency drives represent a strategic expansion of Eaton’s “lean connectivity” technology: lean solutions guarantee machine and panel builders more accurate speed control, more reliable performance and less time and costs for preparation, wiring, testing and setup.
In particular, pluggable modules make it possible to quickly and easily incorporate PowerXL drives into Eaton’s SmartWire-DT connection and communication technology (which completely eliminates the need for traditional control circuit wiring).
Easy to assemble and install, they thus facilitate the operator’s job.
Moreover, the objective Eaton set for itself during the development phase of these drives was to make them highly intuitive; in order to do this, the concern worked on self-explanatory type codes, autotune functionality and convenient parameterization (with only 14 standard parameters) to simplify configuration and startup.
In addition to using the command switches on the device or, alternately, a computer, the user can also import parameters from another device using a Bluetooth drive for PC with RJ45 interface.

The first two models
The energy efficiency of the PowerXL drives is indispensable for powering devices such as pumps, fans, conveyor belts, cranes, wrapping machines, compressors or elevators.
The series currently includes:
• DC1, basic model (see photo), which covers a rating range of 0.37 - 11 KW and is suitable for applications requiring a robust design, availability and universal functionality; it controls the motor with U/f characteristics and enables increased torque, making it possible to power the motors at 150% of rating power for 60s and 175% for 2s;
• DA1, with ratings from 0.75 kW to 250 kW, is suitable for more demanding solutions requiring higher performance. PowerXL variable frequency drives also offer diverse open and closed loop control methods.
T his version also offers the user the possibility of sensorless vector control (SVC) as well as closed loop control with rotary encoder (CLV). In the open loop mode, DA1 can move from rest with 200% torque. Equipped with PLC functionality, in addition to a standard integrated PID controller, it offers the possibility of powerful solutions for diverse applications like cranes, elevators, wrapping machines and compressors.
PowerXL variable frequency drives come as standard with Modbus RTU and CANopen fieldbus systems, but optional fieldbus modules make it easy to connect to other fieldbus systems (Profibus, Profinet, DeviceNet, EthernetIP, EtherCat, Modbus TCP and BACNET). In alternative to fieldbus connection, as mentioned above, they can also be incorporated into Eaton’s SmartWire-DT communication system.
It is therefore easy not only to set parameters for the frequency inverters centrally through the SmartWire-DT interface, but also to communicate control commands and display diagnostic data.
The device can also be controlled through a PROFIdrive profile, which makes available the entire spectrum of PowerXL frequency inverter functions.
By focusing on energy efficiency, the DA1 drives support both standard three-phase motors, which normally comply with current IE2 and IE3 standards, and high efficiency permanent magnet motors designed for the coming IE4 standard. They also feature an energy optimizer that can automatically reduce the voltage with light loads.
PowerXL drives supply full power up to ambient temperatures of 50 °C (IP20), and the DA1 up to 160 kW with protection up to IP55. They meet all requirements and international standards (CE, cUL, UL, C-Tick, Gost-R, RoHS, DNV) and with single phase and three-phase voltage inputs of 115 V, 230 V and 400-480 V, they are suitable for use anywhere in the world.
