Semi-finished plastic products suitable for food contact

The components for the food industry in direct contact with food. if made of plastic material, must conform to the requirements of the last EU Regulation 10/2011.

In order to respond effectively to the demands of the market, Ensinger can provide declarations of conformity for food contact suitability for many of standard semi-processed itmes and has in fact chosen to certify a wide range of standard materials in stock, without creating a more expensive product line exclusively created for food. Which guarantees the maximum availability of the material in many sizes and dimensions, also enabling customers who also serve other industrial segments to avoid the need to double stock.

What the legislation demands. The European reference standard (Plastics Implementation Measure - PIM) aims to rule out any toxic effect that might arise out of the interaction between food substances and plastics.
Ensinger has adapted its range of products for the food industry to the new criteria, making migration tests on a wide range of standard semi-finished items. To ensure full traceability, it also provides a statement of compliance knowledge related to individual deliveries of semi-finished products, as required by Reg EU 10/2011.
To reflect the complexity of the possible conditions of use, the Regulations define in detail the migration tests to be performed with different substances simulants, times and temperatures depending on the intended application for the product. Developers can use these data to draw definitive conclusions regarding compliance with the migration limits in specific conditions of use. The declarations of conformity to PIM provided by Ensinger also contain the results of the tests, allowing customers to determine in advance whether a material is suitable for direct contact with a specific food substance, thus reducing time and cost needed for the certification of the final product.
