Heineken sales surge to almost €24 billion
In one of the best results ever reported by the Dutch brewer, Heineken posted 6.6% organic revenue growth in 2019 to €23.89 billion along with a 3.1% increase in consolidated sales volumes.
Premium brands performed strongly in all regions, particularly the Heineken® brand which saw 8.3% growth to 42 million hectolitres, including double-digit growth in over 40 countries.
The two international brands Tiger and Amstel also grew strongly, Tiger mainly in Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia, Amstel in Brazil, Mexico, Russia, South Africa and the UK. Craft beers generated sales of €5.6 million with strong gains in Europe, while the company’s portfolio of non-alcoholic beers saw double-digit growth thanks to Heineken® 0.0.
“We continue to pursue a growth strategy focused on sustainable development,” noted Jean-François van Boxmeer, chairman and CEO of Heineken International. “Over the past decade, we have lowered our water usage by almost a third to 3.4 hectolitres of water per hectolitre produced, ahead of our 2020 target. We have increased the proportion of renewable energy in production to 19%. In more than 60 markets, we have spent over 10% of Heineken media budgets on responsible consumption awareness campaigns.”
