Part of Sanko Holding and headquartered in Turkey, Süper Film Ambalaj is a multinational company with 14,000 employees, operating since 1993. In the industrial area of Gaziantep, among its many specializations, there are three production lines for BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) and two for BOPET (biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate), materials that Beste Taskiran discusses from a sustainability perspective.“Süper Film’s production is primarily geared towards the European market, which accounts for 60% of our turnover”, begins Taskiran. “Our portfolio includes a wide range of BOPP and BOPET products with applications spanning from food packaging to personal care and industrial packaging”.

Looking at the impact of the PPWR, where is the market headed?
“Over the past two years, our R&D department has focused primarily on developing sustainable solutions across diverse markets. Today, we are able to produce BOPP films with a PCR (post-consumer recycled) component obtained through chemical recycling. For this innovation, Süper Film was honoured in the ‘Packaging Materials and Components’ category at the 2025 World Star Award, thanks to a recycled mono-PP film for food packaging containing 90% PCR”.

Is bio-compostable material still a key player in the market?
“We do have bio-compostable products in our portfolio, but market trends indicate that interest in this material is now waning. However, the market is constantly evolving, requiring a careful balance between price and quality - a balance we monitor closely at all times. Today, the market clearly signals that the primary focus has shifted to PCR, while bio-compostable materials are losing ground, largely due to the requirements introduced by the PPWR”.

Supply chain control: what measures does Süper Film implement?
“We have a dedicated division focused on our sustainable product range, capable of overseeing both inbound and outbound material flows. It is worth noting that we source secondary raw materials exclusively from Europe, which is also our primary market. Our internal procedures ensure monitoring of the material throughout its entire process. The specialised department then shares this data both internally and with our customers, fully complying with European regulations and all quality standards”.
