Adhesives for new generation packaging
Gluing is a fundamental element of packaging, as well as guaranteeing its primary functions, it follows and adapts to the evolution of the substrates to be glued and the systems used in the various industrial applications. From ICAT’s experience new high performance hotmelt adhesives also advantageous from an economic point of view: the latest developments at Ipack-Ima (Hall 14, stand G29-H30).
The constant evolution of materials used to produce packaging and the continuous new features in print processes are orienting the market towards the use of high performance adhesives, formulated with “metallocene” polymers, the only ones up until recently capable of guaranteeing the twin performance of excellent resistance to oxidization and high adhesion to a great variety of substrates.
ICAT Adesivi (leading producer of packaging and wrapping adhesives) has been developing innovatory solutions for gluing for forty years in its two production sites in Perugia (IT) and Barcelona (ES).
Recently, in cooperation with a US multinational, the company has devised, first in Europe, a new hotmelt adhesive technology: the ICAMELT RX, characterised performances comparable, and in some cases even better, than those of metallocene adhesives.
Thanks to the use of special raw materials, RX technology enables a high resistance to oxidisation to be obtained along with a high adhesion to most substrates used in producing packaging.
And this against costs lower by 25% compared to standard metallocene adhesives, that hence ensure the users an important economic saving.
A special test protocol, that compared the performance of ICAMELT RX to that of metallocene adhesives as well as traditional EVA based adhesives, scientifically demonstrated the amount of additional production yield as well as the reduction in maintenance costs.
