Anuga FoodTec

Cologne (D), 29th to 31st March 2012

A crossover fair in all respects, Anuga FoodTec offers integrated technological solutions for the food and beverage industry: process, packaging and wrapping, conditioning and cooling systems, biotechnology, food safety and quality management, transportation and logistics, automation and robotics.

Two months from the event, figures show an overall increase over the previous edition: 200 new exhibitors, foreign participation at around 50%, increased exhibition space with the inclusion of Hall 5.2, for a total of 127,000 m2, a large number of pre-bookings, which allow one to predict a higher attendance than that of the 2009 edition (that registered 34.000 visitors from 117 countries).
Incidentally, in mid-November Italian exhibitors registered for the show stood at 109 (in 2009 these were 141), but the outlook is for further growth. Around 1,000 buyers are also expected from Italy.
Koelnmesse has developed a structured marketing plan, with the aim of exploring different areas other than the traditional themes broached by the show and to create new opportunities for contact between the operators of the various sectors. The key issues featuring at this sixth edition include food safety (in the laboratory or production analysis section), as well as processing and packaging.
Side events - For the third time Anuga FoodTec will be hosting "Robotik-Pack-Line", launched by Koelnmesse and DLG and made possible thanks to the partnership for the occasion with some twenty companies, which will put their skills and knowhow to good use in order to represent a completely automated, safe, speedy and hygienic production, converting and packaging process for fresh meat. The fair will once again host the "IFW International Fruit-juice Week", which will be accompanied by an extensive program of conferences, specialized forums and panel discussions focusing on food technology, nanotechnology, the use of ultrasonics, energy efficiency, fresh-cut produce and controlled temperature logistics.
Strategic agreements - PackExpo and Anuga FoodTec (via their organizers PMMI and Koelnmesse GmbH of course) have recently found good reasons for collaboration, providing a response to the general trend of food producers towards choosing integrated technological solutions. The primary objective of the agreement: optimize resources and expertise promoting the aggregation of packaging and processing companies in order to draw an ever increasing number of visitors to the main food processing and beverage industry shows in North America and Europe. As an example, last September at Pack Expo Las Vegas witnessed the debut of "Processing Zone", where new technologies converged to produce staple foods, beverages, baked goods, snacks, meat, dairy, processed fruit and vegetables. PMMI will also sponsor the North American Packaging Pavilion at Anuga FoodTec 2012.

New shows - Koelnmesse has recently expanded its fair portfolio. Focus on two events planned for 2012 in Cologne: Gusto Italia, food fair devoted exclusively to Italian food and beverage (24th to 26th June), C-Shop Cologne, European Convenience show, focused on the needs of small stores and mini markets (4th - 6th November).
