Luxe Pack 2015: numbers and exclusive ideas

Now established as a major global showcase for trends in high end packaging, the latest Luxe Pack (organized by Idice) concluded amid general satisfaction, having brought to light creativity, projects and production of a highly select sector.

A permanent guest of Montecarlo’s Grimaldi Forum in a sunny October, Luxe Pack reports growing indicators across the board, signaling the success of an event. Both visitors and exhibitors went up, but also product previews, forum and conference attendance and visits by international delegations.

The data confirms the growing interest in the luxury fair among sector operators involved in the production and development of packaging: compared to the last edition, Luxe Pack 2015 saw 20% growth in participation by marketing & communication managers, 22% by designers and 5% by packaging development managers.

In total, the event welcomed 8600 visitors (+2% compared to last year) and 450 exhibitors, 80 of which in attendance for the first time thanks to the new spaces opened at the Monégasque location. The number of foreign visitors also went up, particularly those from the Americas (+50% from Latin America, +25% from USA/Canada).

Focus on
Many innovative solutions were presented: smart and connected packaging (for example, an Arjo Wiggins Security anti-tampering solution adopted by Cosmografica Albertini that can read the fiber of a paperboard carton, on any spot, and match the datum to a lot number), containers carrying new trends in beauty, refined finishing techniques, sensory experiments, 3D printing and the digital revolution…
Topics masterfully covered by the event, in addition to the interaction between container and contents in the Luxe Formulation space (a snapshot of the latest trends in formulas, concepts, textures, cutting-edge full service and organic cosmetics) included sustainability.

In fact, luxury packaging producers are also demonstrating a growing interest in environmental and social responsibility, expressing an awareness that orients their choices, starting with research and development. In this sense, a point of reference in sustainable packaging is the Luxe Pack in Green contest, which has become an institution at the event.
This year, two awards were given out, in a ceremony attended by the prime minister Michel Roger.
“Best green packaging” went to SGD for Neo Infini, a quality premium glass that is brilliant and transparent, made from 90% recycled materials. Aptar Beauty + Home won the prize for best approach to corporate social responsibility.
Luxe Pack 2016 will be moved up to 21-23 September (an “exception” according to the organizers), once again at Grimaldi Forum.

In the following, a closer look at the solutions that could be seen at the fair.

On-the-go handy

Proteo, a pocket sized pack with an open&close dispensing system, is the new flexible packaging for Aptar that opens up to new marketing possibilities for the on-the-go personal care (hair-, body-, baby and sun care, etc…) sector.
Available in the 40 to 90 ml version (for max. five uses) compared to the traditional flacon, the heatsealed film pouch, as well as being light and handy, offers the advantage of being totally emptyable with residue being left in the pack.
The flat surface of the pack can also bear easily and economically printable graphic communication that constitutes a brand asset.
Bottles for beauty, in a set
Baralan offers refined and modern packaging with a set of Ulli bottles, ideal for anyone in search of a complete nail polish line (8, 10 and 15 ml combined with a removable Alster overcap), or for skincare (30, 50 and 100 ml with 24 neck combined with a pump for creams and Alster body overpump) or perfumes (30, 50 and 100 ml with crimp neck combined with spray pumps and Alster body overcrimp). And while the entire line can be customized with a wide array of decoration processes, the perfume and 8 ml nail polish are offered in a superweight version, with a thicker glass bottom that makes the packaging more refined.

Nail polish chic. Baralan also offers a new elegant and functional set for nail polish that consists in a Stefania 15 ml bottle with Naviglio overcap that covers a good deal of the bottle, concealing any imperfections caused by safety air bubbles allowing the product to expand. Available in black or opaque white, with UV protection properties, Naviglio has a broader surface than a normal cap, offering more possibilities for decoration and customization, and can also be used as a convenient stand when applying the polish.

Upgraded back surface

The growing spread of digital printing in packaging has induced Iggesund to significantly update its Invercote G board, one the the Swedish company’s lead products. Since the summer of 2015 the board sold by Iggesund is slighly glossy on the back, that improves it print properties (for both offset and digital) preserving that “natural” tactile roughness that has always been feature of all Iggesund products. The application of the gloss coating on the back improves the whiteness of the rear face, protecting it from the effects of exposure to light and thus guaranteeing a fresh appearance in time.
At Luxe Pack, along with Luxoro (its exclusive distributor for Italy), Kurz has created a “Concept Store” to allow visitors to the show to have a complete and all-round brand experience thanks to its packaging and label enhancement technology.

In particular we cite the shiny metallized finish in an infinite range of colors created using the Inline Foiling® process, that overcomes the longterm difficulties of decorating plastic or glass cylinders with an acceptable quality.

Today this can be done by adding an Inline Foiling® unit to your screenprint line: an innovative process, for which Kurz has developed primer, metalized sheets, silicon rubber plates and UV varnishes.
