Almost a Bildungsroman*

B&R are inaugurating the Italian Automation Academy, a structure entirely dedicated to training, and thus they are “writing” a telling story of commitment in favour of a serious approach to automation. The sense and the scope of this undertaking is rounded off by the network of relations and agreements with Academies, Research Centers and obviously, the market. L.G.

*Bildungsroman: normally translated as “formative novel”, is a typically German literary genre. The German noun “Bildung” - meaning “training”, “education”, but also “culture” - is an extensive term, that indicates both the formative process of an individual as well as the results of the same, the form and hence, indirectly, culture, taste and acquired knowledge.
Hence the association between Goethe, Novalis, Moritz... and the spirit B&R’s investment in activity and financial resources to devise a formative specialist and/or standard training offer comes easily.

Indeed it did so on listening to the multiple presentation of the heads of the Austrian company, in occasion of the official inauguration of the Italian Automation Academy at B&R’s headquarters in Passirana di Rho.
And we appreciated the expertise and the enthusiasm that permeated all the addresses regarding an activity - training - that entails a considerable commitment in means and resources, but that in B&R has always been seen as the keystone of market success.
Indeed, spreading the word regarding the potentials and the characteristics of a technology that is developing continuously, correctly guiding the potential users to a more efficient application of industrial automation also offers a further opportunity for loyalising both the new recruits as well as the engineers committed in their companies, the same as the customers and the end users.

As Luca Galluzzi, Managing Director of B&R Industrial Automation pointed out: «Having an Automation Academy in Italy means contributing to the growth of the culture of automation in our country but also offering food for thought in the delicate transition phase between the school and the world of work. And this thanks to the active relations with some of the university research centers. But it also means being able to guarantee a specialist knowhow to all employees, engineers, technicians committed in the development of applications or in assistance to customers, commercial resources and marketing… Those people that on a daily basis grapple and deal with the market and its problems, that need to be approached and solved with efficacy and intelligence».

Prepare and brace yourself for the future
The training vocation in B&R has solid roots and aboveall features the presence in the company of special trainers, capable of instructing - with modular and standardised courses - customers, partners, professors and students (or that is those who in the future will have to be able to design or use automation components, exploiting the potential of the same to the best).
The participants in B&R courses all around the world easily assimilate the contents thanks to the special lesson formula, conceived and developed in time by training experts.
The practical training sessions, accompanied by theoretical teaching, lead to the full understanding of the concepts through the actual application of the same.
Explaining in detail B&R’s concept of training Franz Enhuber (Austrian Automation Academy head) highlighted the grades of study and the methodologies adopted to transfer and sediment the knowhow, as well as the uniqueness of a dual approach with interrelated theoretical and practical levels.

«Our training, aimed both at internal resources as well as customers, is pretty severe: an ideal blend of theory and practise, enabling the achievement of the right degree of understanding that leads to real knowledge. This is an approach that has been perfected in time, declined in several modules according to the subject to be studied, and proposed worldwide».
Reiterating B&R’s priorities (satisfy the market from a technological and service point of view) new Education Manager for Italy Davide Poli gave a detailed account of the training offer for customers, defined in standard or “tailor made” modules and centred on the key themes of automation: control, motion and safety.

Essential here the synergies developed over the years with the universities of Brescia and Bologna (notably the research projects supported in various levels by the B&R).
But also with companies the calibre of Comau Robotics that, very active in the training field, found it important to work with a supplier like B&R that, capable of offering products that satisfy the demands of their market and a technical/applicative support, also demonstrating to be a worthy partner in the training field.

During the conference the importance of B&R’s relations with association, research centers, workshops and with projects like that of the Schools Robotics Network in which, thanks to the consistent investment in workshops and training in cooperation with COMAU, the “Robotics at School” project has been endorsed by 82 companies in the robotic and mechatronic sector through agreements with important institutional partners and with the main Italian schools and Universities.
