A good 2013 for the Pharmintech supplier industry
The Italian companies that work upstream of pharmaceutical production have filed away a positive 2013.
This is documented by the Pharmintech Observatory, or that is the market study that takes its name after the expo organized by Ipack-Ima (in 2016 at Bolognafiere), anticipating a recovery trend to which other industrial sectors “should” align themselves in the coming months.
The Observatory involved a sample of 131 companies of all sizes, that provide machines, materials and services, employing close on 10,000 people and creating a turnover of around 2.2 billion euros. In the first half of 2013 only 22% of those interviewed declared a drop in turnover, while more than 38% companies registered an increase in results and 40% stability. Trends for foreign demand are also good, with a decidedly solid balance between increase (37%) and the slackening of exports (19%).
Similarly, in the second half of the year, over 35% of the sample predicted an increase in turnover and only 19% a drop, with exports still playing a decisive role in compensating Italy’s sluggish domestic market. Employment is seen to be substantially stable.
Analysing the trends of the single segments that make up the sample, in the first half of 2013 the most favourable balances of turnover, exports and employment were registered by the machine producers. The service sector is in turn seen to be performant as regards turnover but negative as regards exports, the materials sector is positive for turnover and exports but negative in terms of employment. Trends were much the same in the second half of the year.
