Italy top European EPS user in food packaging

According to a recent report by Micro Market Monitor, in 2015 the EPS food packaging market reached a value of 291.8 million dollars. This figure is expected to surpass 347 million by 2021 (+2.8% between 2016 and 2021). In terms of volume, 81,220 t of EPS packaging was used in Europe in 2015, most of which (51,840 t) for seafood.

The remainder (29,382 t) is divdided among all other applications (Source: PE annual statistics 2015). AIPE stresses that Italy is Europe’s top user of EPS as food packaging, consuming 20,000 t, or one fourth of the European total.
Seafood also takes the lion’s share (14,000 t) in Italy. As for other food applications, 6,000 t of EPS packaging was used in Italy in 2015, eclipsed only by Germany (7,000 t) and Slovakia (6,931 t).
