Marchesini Group: results and plans

9% turnover growth in 2015 for Marchesini Group, which looks to less mature markets outside Europe to consolidate its position and drafts a Code of Ethics.

In 2015, in the face of a mostly stable Italian automatic machinery sector - particularly for pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging systems - Marchesini Group has managed 9% turnover growth, increasing from 247 million euro in 2014 to 270 million last year. This performance confirms the recently reported positive trend, moving against the general current of slowdown in the manufacturing sector. The group’s revenue has increased by 11%.

Beyond Europe. In this scenario, the reflections of Maurizio Marchesini (the group’s CEO and president of Confindustria Emilia-Romagna), commenting on the concern’s results: «At this historic moment, the competition from German packaging machine manufacturers can be countered by establishing a presence in those countries undergoing social and political upheavals in order to secure an advantageous position when those markets stabilize.
I’m thinking of the new branch that we opened on 1 January in Ukraine, where OTC Markets concerns are decommissioning old facilities in order to purchase new, cheaper ones. Or Iran, where for years we have been registering orders that give us high hopes for the future. The lifting of the sanctions is actually creating new economic opportunities. But I am also paying close attention to Algeria, where we are supplying lines for blister packs and filling liquids, and Myanmar, where the easing of protectionist policies in combination with the recognized excellence of Made in Italy have enabled us to sign a supply deal with a state pharmaceutical enterprise. The fulfillment of expectations in the Chinese and American markets - concludes the CEO - and surprises in South Africa, which is figuring increasingly in our customer portfolio, give a sense of a sector that, albeit facing major challenges, can rest easy about the near future».

Responsible growth. The Marchesini Group has two major events scheduled in 2016. The first is the international packaging fair Pharmintech (Bologna, 13-15 April), where Marchesini Group will welcome customers from across the globe at a large stand. The other is the August unveiling of a new facility in Carpi, which will become Italy’s largest thermoforming center. Both events will give the concern a chance to divulge its Code of Ethics, which was drafted in order to bring all the group’s corporate social responsibility activities under a single organic structure. Published on 1 January 2016 and distributed to all employees and stakeholders, the document traces a series of guidelines to preserve safety, liberty and human dignity, as stipulated by law, but also to continue to grow responsibly.
