New markets: Halal Certification
The market of foods prepared in observance of rules laid out by the Islamic faith is worth approximately 2,000 billion euro, and their compliance is demonstrated with Halal Certification.
Knowledge of the rules and techniques of this system enables approaching a global market of 1.6 billion people, 35 million of whom live in Europe, 4 million in Italy alone, a market that is growing as the purchasing power of Muslim populations around the world increases. The food industry, and that of meats in particular, has a direct interest in these matters, and for this reason ICB Qualità and Halal World are promoting a specific meeting at Meat-Tech, entitled “Halal – Technical aspects and opportunities of a 2000 billion euro market” (22 May, 2.30pm at the Innovation Corner in pavilions 5-7).
In addition to food processing, Halal Certification concerns the textile, footwear, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and tourism sectors, not to mention transport and logistics.
