Protecting plants from the risk of explosions

Customized and top-of-the-range solutions for company safety: ERIGO is an authoritative benchmark in protecting industrial plants against the risk of explosion of powders.

1. Blast suppression system on sleeve filter - Synthetic fibre powders.
2. Explosion test on breakage panel.

The threat of explosion from powders is a constant and involves almost every type of plant.
Explosions on company facilities in particular differ substantially from other types of risk: The degree of damage is almost always high, both in terms of human lives (an explosive event with fatalities is mortal every 55 events registered, against an average of 1 to 500 for other types of accident) both in economic terms.
There are also a number of risks during packaging of bulk products or during the recycling and disposal of packaging: In the first case, because clouds of powder are created, in the latter, because potentially dangerous accumulations of offcuts or waste can be created.

The ATEX Directive. The media interest in accidents at workplaces at risk of explosion has often drawn attention to the new ATEX directive, which applies both to appliances and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, as well as for safety, control and regulation devices used outside of potentially explosive atmospheres, though necessary or useful for the safe operation of appliances and systems protecting against the risk of explosion.
The Directive covers “appliances”, i.e. machines, equipment, fixed or mobile devices, control components and instrumentation, as well as prevention systems that, separately or jointly, are intended for use in production, transport, storage, measurement, control and converting.
According to the intentions of the legislator, this Directive aims to improve the credibility of the CE mark and the quality of the activity carried out, but is not always easy to implement within companies.

Possible interventions. Knowledge of the industrial processes and of the European and national regulations in force is the added value of the company ERIGO, which offers a unique “turnkey” service in Italy.
In around 20 years of activity, the company has in fact gained a specific experience of plants of every size and production category, from small niche companies to multinationals, offering itself as a solid partner in conforming to the ATEX directive for both separate appliances and complete plants and systems.
Its field of action embraces the entire path: From area classification to  risk assessment right up to designing the protective measures and the supply of the safety systems, installation and maintenance included.
