Pulp recovery: recyclers unite to form Unirima

The two main pulp recovery and recycling associations, Unionmaceri and Federmacero, have decided to merge to create a new association called Unirima - the National Union of Pulp Recovery and Recycling Enterprises. Giuliano Tarallo will serve as president of the new association, which belongs to Fise Unire (Confindustria’s National Union of Recovery Enterprises) and has the objective of more effectively representing and protecting operators in the sectors of collection, recovery, recycling and marketing of paper pulp.

«A stronger association - declared Tarallo - is the most appropriate means to pursue the interests of our sector, which is always under threat of indiscriminate assimilation that reduces market spaces, by ambiguous regulations on exports that put its business at risk and by legislative interventions at the national and European levels that are increasingly aimed at subordinating the raw materials market to the needs of user industries».The economic importance of paper, a strategic sector for the so-called “circular economy”, is shown by the results of the report “Italy of Recycling” by Fise Unire: in 2014, the amount of paper collected in Italy increased slightly (+0.1% compared to 2013), reaching 6.1 million t.
These positive variations affect the entire country, with +1.6% in the North, +4.7% in central Italy and +10.6% in the South. Italy recycles 51.7 kg of paper and carton per capita annually; 80% of waste packaging is recycled.
