As the natural culmination of a strategic alliance initiated in 2017, the US multinational Sun Chemical (a member of the DIC Corporation group of companies based in Japan) has acquired Sapici (Società azionaria per l’industria chimica italiana), a specialist in high-performance polyurethanes for coatings, flexible packaging, industrial adhesives and more.

The operation bolsters Sun Chemical’s integrated supply strategy in the packaging market by adding capabilities to develop and produce unique polymers for the entire portfolio of inks, coatings, and lamination adhesives.

Mehran Yazdani, President of Global Packaging and Advanced Materials at Sun Chemical, said:

“Sapici’s core competencies in the manufacturing of ultra-low monomer isocyanates-based solutions will allow Sun Chemical to further address both current and future trends in sustainability, compliance, food contact, health and safety.”

Sapici was established in 1936 and posted revenues of around €100 million in 2021. The company is based in Caronno Pertusella in the province of Varese, Italy and operates two plants in Italy (one in Milan and the other in Pavia) and one in Zhuhai, China.
