There is no turning back...
Fifty years: an important anniversary for Laminati Cavanna SpA, an industrial company specialized in the contract lamination of flexible films.
A long history that brought it to BRC certification and to giving itself new development programs for the future, so as to continue to be a reliable and trusted partner of many Italian converters, and not only.
“There are things that grip us and don’t allow us to sleep ...” *. It must also have happened to Giancarlo Cavanna when, on April 15, 1969 - shortly before man set foot on the moon - , with very little means, he started his business.
Shy, superstitious, in no way keen on speaking in public, this great entrepreneur and worker is a figure for whom, despite the occasion, the real party would have been not to celebrate...
Today he is still the president of Laminati Cavanna, and not only continues to look ahead with optimism, but also to study how to reconfigure the history of his company, in view of the opportunities to come within the contract solvent and solvent-free lamination business.
Meanwhile, he has worked on a new corporate structure, completing the process of delegating to his daughter Anna Paola, who has also shown she is capable of reconciling commitment in the company and institutional roles (the Italian Packaging Institute, Assografici-Giflex and Confapi Picenza), thus diversifying the main cultural horizons.
Hence a father and a daughter with a very different in attitude and education, but united by the same qualities of integrity and personal correctness, and by the highly gratifying awareness of being “OK” with themselves.
Change pace, together
Laminati Cavanna has been able to best interpret the times and the ways of a developing market, implementing significant changes, without however betraying its very own nature as flexible, fast company with its extensive expertise on materials…and whose strongpoint is confidentiality.
In 2017 the company obtained BRC Grade AA Certification which certifies the validity and importance of investments made to meet the fundamentals of the standard. And with the aim of ensuring that processing is carried out in compliance with the mandatory food safety criteria required by the market, the company has completed an important process of adapting its structures, production areas and storage warehouses.
It took 6 months of “construction” to modernize the plant, redesigning flows of people and materials, but also to make the work environments more accommodating: changing rooms, canteen, offices.
A goal achieved, which has allowed Laminati Cavanna to significantly change its customer portfolio too, now being able to offer converters an approved backup of their processing and allowing them to experiment with new packaging solutions, thanks to their expertise on the different materials used in the food, medical, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors.
A fine company... With a number of points in its favor
2018, for Laminati Cavanna, was the year of records: the best turnover of all time, with 49 employees, with some 40 tons of materials handled every day producing up to 2,500,000 (though with extremes of 3,000,000) linear metres of laminate per week.
Furthermore, last year, a new dual solvent Bobst laminator was installed (a total of 7 machines, 4 of which are solvent-based and 3 solventless are operating in the plant) as well as a rubber cylinder grinding machine from Rossini, which allows the company to not only satisfy its own work needs (it has about 600 cylinders), but to also offer third party service on contract to customer converters.
And now the company works on two shifts, with people who have grown professionally and who have acquired new responsibilities.
This year there is a plan to modernize the cutting department, creating a controlled contamination environment, as well as installing a second cutting line, bringing part of the work hitherto done in outsourcing back into the company.
Other interventions are planned to completely air-condition the finished product warehouse, which also has 5 hot chambers and, looking a little further ahead, a solvent recovery plant is also planned.
On a completely different front, in 2019 a management system consistent with the Industry 4.0 paradigm will be implemented.
There is something for all tastes, in short, as long as 1 + 1 continues to make 2, at least talking in terms of flexible packaging.
