Cibus 2019

10 - 11 April  2019, Parma

In presenting the 2019 edition of Cibus, Fiere di Parma and Federalimentare have declared the objectives underlying the fair strategy, which intends to protect Italian excellence in the agri-food sector from two phenomena insiduous for the development of our products on international markets: Italian Sounding and Local Premium.
The first is by now known (with size estimates ranging from 30 to 50 billion euros depending on the sources), the latter is much more recent and subtle especially in the medium to long term. Inspired by Italian products, local operators in various countries “invent” premium replacement products on the functional level of authentic Italian ones. If “Reggianito” or “Pompeian” vinegar are evident cases of Italian Sounding, certain “cold-pressed” olive oils or large forms of “naturally seasoned” cheeses become local “alternatives” and competitors to many top products of Italian exports. This is why it is essential to disseminate the uniqueness of the Italian agri-food system, built on the long-term relationship between production and the territories, as well as on the resilience of entrepreneurial generations that are today the true distinguishing asset of the sector.

«In 20018 over 3,400 Italian companies exhibited their products at Parma - explained Antonio Cellie, CEO of Fiere di Parma - but also accompanied over 10,000 operators from all over the world to directly get to know their production and our supply chains»; this activity of “Education on site” this year, will be further expanded thanks to the shorter edition of Cibus (2 days), and its being held contemporaneously with Vinitaly, allowing international operators to fully get to know the Italian Food&Wine market in just a single week.
