Flexibility with high energy efficiency

More than 60 Danfoss drive systems with extremely high energy efficiency: VLT® One Gear Drive gearmotors plus high performance VLT® FC 302 AutomationDrive inverters installed on the new Sibeg Coca Cola bottling line.

Constant improvement of its environmental commitment, business continuity, industrial integration and considerable production autonomy: loyal to these principles (but also the project’s timeframe), in January Sibeg Coca Cola* unveiled its new bottling line with 60,000 cans/h capacity for the formats 150 ml Slim (sole producer in Italy), 330 ml and 500 ml.

For the installation, Sibeg opted for the innovative drive solution Danfoss VLT® FlexConceptTM - which combines the high performance inverter Danfoss VLT® FC302 AutomationDrive with the hygienic and eco-efficient gearmotor Danfoss VLT® One Gear Drive - developed for the food & beverage and packaging industries according to criteria of efficiency, reliability and flexibility.
More than 60 drive systems (gearmotor + inverter) with high energy efficiency are installed on the new can filling line. Mr. Greco, Sibeg’s technical manager, explains the reasons for choosing this solution: «Once again in this case we decided to continue our long-standing collaboration with Danfoss for the sake of continuity, given that Siberg has a remarkable pool of inverters installed. Moreover, its drive solution VLT® FlexConceptTM proves the concern’s competence in the beverage sector: the proposed solution is oriented toward energy conservation thanks to its greater efficiency compared to the IE4 class. And this value exceeds not only governing laws, but is also capable of satisfying future regulatory requirements for the next decade».

In fact, the energy survey showed 20% savings compared to a conventional drive solution with IE2 class motor, thanks to a total energy efficiency of 90%. More precisely, the permanent magnet motor has an efficiency of 96%, higher than IE4 standard, and for this reason Sibeg can expect a ROI in less than 18 months.
But energy saving is only the point of departure for Danfoss’s proposal to minimize payback timeframes, which is also aided by its hygienic design, EHEDG-certified (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group), which, thanks to a smooth surface with no cooling fins, enables a 40% reduction to cleaning cost and time (not to mention that IP67 and IP69K protection grades prevent any risk of infiltration).

Furthermore, the Danfoss solution guarantees low maintenance, requiring only an oil change after 35,000 work hours. In other words, for the first seven years no maintenance is required.
Last, but certainly not least, are the reduced warehouse costs: in practice, Sibeg has managed to cover 62 applications with just 2 reduction ratios, while maintaining the same physical size. Similarly, just 2 inverter sizes sufficed for the entire line.
Thus, just 2 changeover modules for the mechanical component and a command module are enough to guarantee 100% coverage of the risk of machine stop due to late startup.

Energy efficiency, easy cleaning, minimal maintenance and reduced warehouse space: these are the advantages Sibeg enjoys by having wisely chosen the Danfoss solution VLT® One Gear Drive gearmotor with VLT® FC 302 AutomationDrive inverter for its new cans filling line.
Danfoss VLT® FlexConcept
A solution for the food & beverage and packaging industries based on criteria of efficiency and reliability, also suitable for existing production systems. It is the result of a winning combination of:
- VLT® OneGearDrive gearmotor, available in standard or hygienic version;
- VLT® AutomationDrive FC 302 high performance inverter;
- decentralized solution for permanent magnet motor control VLT® Decentral Drive FCD 302, hygienic or standard model.
VLT® OneGearDrive® Hygienic
Suitable for centralized and decentralized installations, it enhances the factory’s flexibility. Indeed, whether the inverter is installed in the immediate vicinity of the gearmotor or needs to be installed to the grid makes no difference in terms of performance of the motor shaft.

Of course standards regulating cable length between inverter and gearmotor must be observed.

VLT® OneGearDrive

Its highly hygienic features make it an easy to clean product, thanks to a hygienic design with rounded corners, smooth surfaces and no unwashable hollow parts. IP69K protection grade
means that the product withstands extremely high pressure and high temperature washing. Its water-repellent hygienic lacquer resists any detergent commonly used in the beverage industry. All this translates into 40% saving on consumption of water, detergents and backflow water treatment for the motors.
