Modular products (and thinking)

SEW Eurodrive offers its partners the double advantage of reducing costs and increasing productivity ... And hence is developing the two concepts in parallel, offering comprehensive and customized solutions that can generate benefits across the board for users, while conscious of the strategic role that automation plays in the industrial field.

Maurizio Mojoli, general manager of Sew-Eurodrive Italy, is certain of this too and, during the conference held at their stand at the fair SPS, summarized the guidelines to which the company is standardizing its present and coming future.
Sew is to all intents and purposes a "glocal" company, which aims at developing a forward-looking strategy, featuring a high propensity to invest in the longterm, an established presence in markets alongside the direct actors in the given processes and products that are the result of a homogeneous approach and hence easier to transmit».

A reliable service is the ideal complement to product quality, developed according to the principle of modularity: a strategic choice this that allows the company to meet the diverse needs of customers thanks to a truly extensive range of customized drive solutions. A reminder that, in addition to reduction units, SEW-Eurodrive’s range of production also includes dedicated electronics, since the best performance can only be obtained with control and adjustment techniques suited to the implemented drives.

Competencies. On the subject of service, Mojoli described the features of "Drive Benefit" (a portal available to customers*), as regards the management of energy and economies that may ensue, he highlighted the potential of “effiDrive”: described as a "concept" rather than a tool, to be used when seeking practical answers regarding potential energy savings obtainable when modernising ones facilities or rebuilding the same from scratch.

Hence, back to the principle of modularity: only the combination of several components (already efficient in themselves) in a scalable solution and adaptable to the customer’s application is capable of generating energy savings and the relative reduction of operating costs.
On a practical level below we offer a glance at SEW proposals for greater efficiency.

Movigear, a compact mechatronic solution that integrates gearbox and control electronics in a single product motor. In the SNI version the cabling is extremely simplified in that all the signals travel along the power cables under the conveyed wave system.

DRC is the new permanent magnet synchronous motor in efficiency class IE4 (energy saving potential of 50%) with electronic control and Safe Torque Off safety function integrated on board. It can be mounted directly on the full range of SEW Eurodrive modular gear units.

Moviaxis is the company’s leading motion control technology product. The MXR regenerative module enables the recovery of all the energy produced by the motor during braking, feeding the same back into the power grid, avoiding disturbances produced by harmonics.

MXC is in turn a module which rapidly stores the energy by restoring it to the axis. The MXP81 compact version completes the range, adapting to simple applications and with few axes. It incorporates a braking resistor, ensuring maximum safety.

An online platform offering a broad range of services such as: documentation and mechanical drawing download, check of products in stock, order placement and tracking of the various delivery stages.
