Packaging: new generation of adhesives
At Ipack-Ima ICAT presented a new high performance hotmelt adhesives family named Icamelt RX, also advantageous from an economic point of view. Deviced in cooperation with a US multinational and based on a new hotmelt adhesive technology, they assure performances comparable, and in some cases even better, than those of metallocene adhesives.
Thanks to the use of special raw materials, RX technology enables a high resistance to oxidisation to be obtained along with a high adhesion to most substrates used in producing packaging. And this against costs lower by 25% compared to standard metallocene adhesives, that hence ensure the users an important economic saving.
A special test protocol, that compared the performance of Icamelt RX to that of metallocene adhesives as well as traditional EVA based adhesives, scientifically demonstrated the amount of additional production yield as well as the reduction in maintenance costs.
Summary of the advantages. Icamelt RX have already been type registered with many European companies in the food sector. Here are their main characteristics:
- lack of oxidisation and carbonisation, with a drastic reduction in maintenance costs, machine stops and production waste;
- high adhesive power or tack also on substrates that are difficult to glue, with a degree of wettability below 38 dynes/cm;
- no unpleasant fumes or smells emitted;
- suitable for food contact packaging;
- conforming to the standards FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and FDA 21 CFR 176.180.
