1.3 million new e-commerce consumers in Italy

The number of online consumers in Italy has increased by 2 million since the beginning of 2020 to reach a total of 29 million, 1.3 million of whom, according to Netcomm’s estimates, are attributable to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the same period last year (January to May 2019), there were 700,000 new consumers. The study shows that e-commerce will be the fastest growing sector worldwide as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic (up to +55%), followed by modern food retail (up to +23%) and pharmaceutical wholesale (up to +15%).

As for online sales, between the end of February and mid-April, pet care increased by +154%, followed by fresh and packaged food (+130%), home care products (+126%) and personal care products (+93%).
