Industrial checking and controlling: a complete range

Modular and compact, easy to integrate and use: Cognex offers cutting edge tools for industrial vision and measurement, as well as high performance barcode readers.

Cognex Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and markets a range of products that incorporate sophisticated machine vision technology that gives them the ability to “see.”
Cognex products include barcode readers, machine vision sensors, and machine vision systems that are used in factories, warehouses, and distribution centers around the world to guide, gauge, inspect, identify, and assure the quality of items during the manufacturing and distribution process.

Cutting edge solutions
With hundreds of configurations, the second generation In-Sight 7000 vision system - devised by Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) - easily adapts to shifting factory requirements.
These are a suite of ultra-rugged, highly modular standalone vision systems. The second generation In-Sight 7000 series represents a breakthrough in performance, flexibility and ease of integration. This powerful new vision system performs fast and precise inspections that keeps pace with increasing line speeds, while its compact form factor easily fits into space-constrained production lines. The In-Sight 7000’s unique, modular design offers over 400 different field configurations making it the most flexible vision system available.
«This is the industry’s first fully-customizable vision system» says Joerg Kuechen, Senior Vice President, Vision Products at Cognex. «The modular lighting and optics, including field-changeable autofocus, minimize the need for external lighting and allow users to configure the system to their unique requirements which also helps minimize downtime when production line requirements change».
The rugged In-Sight 7000 is IP67-rated and includes Flexible Image Technology™. This complete vision system features a patent-pending LED ring light that produces even, diffused illumination across the entire image, eliminating the need for costly external lighting. A variety of light colors, optical filters and polarizers can easily be swapped in to meet specific application requirements. Plus, the wide range of field-changeable C-mount and S-mount lenses and industrial, mechanical autofocus lens options enhance versatility.

Dedicated software. Like all Cognex In-Sight vision systems, the In-Sight 7000 uses In-Sight Explorer™ to set up and monitor machine vision inspections. This software includes the EasyBuilder® interface for easy step-by-step application setup and the In-Sight spreadsheet view for greater control. The system also includes a full set of powerful In-Sight vision tools, including PatMax RedLine™ pattern matching technology, OCRMax™ optical character recognition and SurfaceFX™ feature extraction technology.

Accurate and simple measurements
Part profile verifications are used across a wide range of industries, including automotive, electronics, consumer products, and food and beverage, to ensure parts are manufactured within specified tolerances. Slight dimensional variations can adversely affect product quality, consumer safety and brand integrity.
Cognex introduced the In-Sight® Laser Profiler, an easy-to-use measurement system that verifies part dimensions and identifies these issues before they reach customers.
Cognex vision tools, accurate object detection and the EasyBuilder® interface make the new profiler an intuitive and highly reliable tool for obtaining height, gap, position, and angle measurements and detecting defects on the factory floor.

«Our customers have been asking for an easy-to-use laser profiler» says Joerg Kuechen. «The In-Sight Laser Profiler combines an easy-to-use interface and the VC200 vision controller, along with the accuracy and dependability of our 3D laser displacement technology. Anyone who knows how to use a 2D In-Sight system can set up a laser profiler application within minutes».
By allowing users to set up inspection applications in a few easy steps, this new measurement system eliminates the complexity required by other laser profiling solutions. Additionally, the In-Sight Laser Profiler also makes it easier to monitor production line activity from anywhere on the factory floor using a web-enabled laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Ultracompact barcode readers

Cognex Corporation has also extended its range of compact fixed-mount barcode readers with the DataMan 70 series, that delivers the highest read rates for 1D and 2D label-based barcodes in a form factor small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
Cognex’s DataMan 70 series offers manufacturing and logistics companies higher performance than single-line and raster laser scanners, at an equivalent cost. Its flexible configuration options and small size also make it ideal for mounting in tight spaces on production lines and in machinery.
«We’ve seen tremendous demand for our compact fixed-mount barcode readers from laser scanner users tired of low performance and short product lifespans» says Carl Gerst, Cognex Senior Vice President, ID Products. «The new DataMan 70 offers more advanced image formation to read even damaged or distorted label-based codes, and it’s designed with no moving parts, meaning it won’t require maintenance».
DataMan 70 is optimized with industry-leading barcode reading algorithms and individually controlled LEDs to ensure continuously high read rates. Measuring just 22.2mm x 35.8 mm x 42.4 mm, it is ultra-compact, yet powerful enough to perform the most challenging label-based barcode reading applications.
