DS Smith and Multivac develop ECO Bowl
Innovative packaging solution specialist Multivac has teamed up with DS Smith, a leading expert in sustainable packaging, to develop an innovative corrugated cardboard tray for fresh foods containing up to 85% less plastic than a traditional tray.
Called ECO Bowl, the tray keeps food fresh and guarantees an equivalent or longer shelf life compared to conventional modified atmosphere packaging. Its sustainability is further improved by the fact that the tray and top foil can be fully colour printed without the need to add a label.
The solution has already been successfully tested in Germany by amidori, a company specialising in plant-based meat alternatives, but it is also ready to be launched onto other European markets.
“The innovation behind ECO Bowl demonstrates the strides DS Smith is taking to encourage greater sustainability within the retail landscape, and through our partnership with Multivac, we are committed to driving the circular economy at greater scale,” says Marc Chiron, Sales, Marketing & Innovation Director Packaging at DS Smith.
