Choosing the right light

Different types of light and a compact housing: Leuze’s new KRT 3C contrast sensor can be integrated in a flexible way into packaging processes thanks to its multicolour capability and reduced dimensions.

It’s, in fact, the smallest contrast sensor ever developed for the packaging industry and allows operators to benefit from a compact and robust device that can be used in many different ways (ECOLAB certified, it can also handle aggressive detergents). KRT 3C detects the position in a reliable and precise way, also in the presence of small contrast differences and with shiny surfaces or highly reflective materials. Greater efficiency is made possible thanks to the multicolour functionality: the red, green and blue light on one side, the white light and red laser light on the other, do not let any object or printed label go undetected. Users can, therefore, select the right light source for any material and the contrast brand colour for their packaging and labelling processes.

The detection of contrasts occurs in a very precise and reliable manner, with a response time of only 50 µs (laser: 125 µs) and minimal signal jitter, making it possible to obtain optimal productivity for the machine. Users can easily configure the KRT 3C through the IO-Link integrated interface, thereby speeding up product format change.

In the packaging industry, products are often packed in tubular bags. The sensors detect the printed contrast markers and determine when the film should be cut. With the KRT 3C contrast sensors, this is always possible thanks to the multicolour functionality, also with materials with different combinations of colours or shades of grey.
