Omas Tecnosistemi in the Cosmopack SMART Area

To celebrate its "twenty years of Cosmopack", Omas Tecnosistemi has done things on a big scale. In addition to presenting the most recent developments of mixers and tube filling machines, an automatic monoblock for filling mascara and lipgloss and a monoblock for perfumes with roll-on, the company made a significant contribution to the Factory 2019 "NO-CO- no compromise" (where, together with Aliplast, Cosmoproject, Verve, a sustainable scalp oil was produced and packaged live during the event),

Omas Tecnosistemi presented the new godet packaging line. Under laminar flow, the new line is equipped with robots for transferring the bottles from the input tray on to the automatic godet filling docking station, for inserting and closing the screw cap, with the extraction of the bottle with depucker on a rotating output table.

For the president Savino Giudici «a 4.0 company is a “managed” company, which knows all its production and commercial processes thoroughly and, for this reason, is able to attribute to them their real economic value (it knows how much they cost). And the principle is valid both for manufacturers like us and for our customers because, even today, one of the biggest problems is that companies do not know the margins of the various work phases».

Statistics for efficiency. «Growing with 4.0 really allows you to have full control of production times and, above all, of the efficiency of machines and plants, controlled by a system capable of monitoring the entire production process» Giudici reiterates.
To achieve these results, Omas relies on various software houses that provide the systems with which to program the machines from a management and control perspective. Because, if up to five years ago the information remained "inside" the machine (a stop or a failure signaled by specific alarms), today everything is imported into a management system that allows you to create statistics, which are fundamental for identifying problems in time and improving the overall efficiency of the plant. These are "stand alone" systems that reside in the customer's factory ... a factory that can now even be monitored remotely and in real time».

Interesting the vision and experience of this company, which maintains many in-house machining operations carried out in an internal production site equipped with machining centers, numerical control machines, but also traditional parallel cutters and lathes.«This department is our flagship: everything is done in Omas, because we believe it is essential to have absolute control over the entire production, from design to construction, with an eye to the details that make the difference».

So, as a "user" of Industry 4.0, are you getting results?

«I really think so. After starting a growth path nine years ago, going from twenty-five employees to the current one hundred and fifteen, we have necessarily changed the management system, and it was like wearing a new suit: until recently our production machines were programmed on board the machine, today we program them remotely with autocad cam systems. This allows us to prepare the production of a mechanical part and the timing with an efficiency and precision previously unthinkable. Which, for us, also means knowing a priori the costs of a certain process ... ». 

Tailor-made technology. Finally, if for the moment Omas' goal is to equip its  machines with systems and controls for preventive diagnostics («we exploit our PLC control experience but we do not mount specific sensors for predictive maintenance»), as regards robotics they feel they are «perfectly in step with the times, thanks to the integration of the technology of some manufacturers, such as Comau, who have taught the world how to do automation».  

But in this industrial scenario, where actions seem to be driven by artificial intelligence, will people still be needed? Giudice believes they will, given that «it is always and in any case man that makes the difference. The machines, in the end, work, but they don't have "anything that beats inside them", they don't have a soul ... we do» And it's just as well.
