Stora Enso introduces an ultra-sustainable innovation for paper cups
With decades of experience in developing high-quality renewable paperboard, the Finnish-Swedish company Stora Enso has launched Cupforma Natura Solo™, a paperboard for the production of paper cups.
The innovative material is suitable for hot and cold drinking cups, as well as for ice cream packaging. It is produced without a traditional plastic coating layer and designed for full fibre recovery in a recycling process.
Already trialled with customers in Europe, the product works in the same way as traditional polyethylene-lined cups. It is part of Stora Enso’s project of actively developing innovative solutions to support coffee houses and fast food chains in their efforts to respond to consumers’ need for sustainable choices.
All Cupforma range products are renewable and recyclable and provide a low-carbon alternative to non-renewable materials. In addition to Cupforma Natura Solo, the offering for cups includes the Cupforma Natura PE Green, produced entirely from renewable raw materials, and the industrially compostable Cupforma Natura Bio.
The wood fibre used by Stora Enso is sourced from sustainably managed forests, and forest certification systems are used to ensure traceability and sustainable forestry.
