Quality coding and traceability

Markem-Imaje (MI), the global provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions and industrial marking and coding systems, will be represented at this year’s Cosmopack event to showcase its solutions for the cosmetics supply chain.

Manufacturers face challenges in terms of the need for both hardware that can provide exceptionally high-quality coding, and software that meets traceability and brand protection demands. Markem-Imaje - MI will present at Cosmopack (Hall 20 - Booth A6) a range of dedicated solutions based on different coding technologies, from laser to continuous inkjet, from print and apply to thermal transfer, alongside its packaging intelligence software.

Under pressure from consumers and regulation, manufacturers must be able to trace their products from end to end, all along the chain, and to minimize the impact of a product recall if necessary.

Massimo Cavazzini, Sales Manager at MI Italy says: «It is becoming essential that products are coded and labeled correctly at the time of production and that they can then be identified quickly and precisely at each stage: primary package, carton, case and pallet. Insufficient coding at any stage breaks the chain of data with possible financial and/or reputational implications».

The MI booth will thus be host to a range of market leading products including the brand new eTouch-S© applicator for the 2200 Series print and apply system, designed by MI from the ground up. The technology provides a response to customer demand for reduced environmental impact and greater safety, without impacting supply chain traceability.

With its built-in AI guaranteeing precision at the highest production speeds, the eTouch-S© has already received an innovation award.

Continuing MI’s commitment to supporting the full range of its customers’ needs, the company will be showcasing the new SmartLase F250 20-watt fiber, which was unveiled last year. The F250 offers high-quality, permanent coding in high-speed applications on a huge variety of packaging materials including metallic packaging, even with an increasing code complexity of 1D and 2D codes.

«Laser codes are durable, they cannot be erased and do not fade over time» continues Mr Cavazzini. «This technology provides manufacturers with excellent product traceability and good protection against counterfeiting». The fiber laser F250 will be presented at the Italian event for the first time.

Another highlight at the MI booth promises to be the 9750 CIJ printer which was launched in April 2022, coinciding with 40 continuous years of CIJ development within MI. The 9750 ushers in the next generation of printers capable of powerful traceability coding, including text messages of up to five lines, logos and high resolution 1D and 2D codes, on all packaging types. The 9750 is compatible with a range of rigorously developed ink formulations, including a large MEK-free ink portfolio that helps reduce consumable consumption and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions by up to 50%, as well as a newly launched high adhesion solution.

MI’s Packaging Intelligence Software Suite powered by coLOS© can help optimize production to maximize uptime and ensure packaging and coding solutions are accurate and traceable. The software also streamlinines all printing needs from one supplier, links ERPs to production lines and improves data accuracy and line efficiency with full automation.
