Caffo 1915 seduced by the 243-year-old charm of Petrus

Petrus, the historic Dutch brand owned by Diageo, has been acquired by Caffo 1915, a Calabria-based group which is best known for the production of Amaro del Capo but also owns Borschi and the Mangilli distilleries.

The acquisition strengthens the company’s position in Northern Europe, particularly in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany where these types of amaro liqueur are extremely popular.

Petrus changed hands several times before becoming part of Diageo. Initially owned by the Dutch family Boonekamp, it was later acquired by Gio.Buton, a long-established Bologna-based company in the alcohol sector, and then by the Cinzano group. Cinzano was later acquired by the UK company Guinness before it became part of the multinational Diageo.

Established in 1777, Petrus Boonekamp is the oldest amaro liqueur on the market.
