DS Smith opens facility in Lebanon, USA
British packaging company DS Smith has opened a new state-of-the-art corrugated packaging manufacturing plant in Lebanon, Indiana (USA).
The manufacturing plant has a capacity to produce more than 1.6 million square metres of lightweight recyclable packaging per day, equivalent to about 30,000 boxes an hour or 186 million square metres per year.
Lightweight packaging is a key differentiator of the products DS Smith will manufacture at the new 50,000 sq.m facility (the boxes will utilize 30% to 40% less fibre than is traditionally used in the USA). Around 170 new jobs are expected to be created in engineering, machinery, production, sales and management positions.
According to a company statement, the new plant will be certified by British Retail Consortium (BRC), a leading trade association for the UK food industry that is globally recognized as the gold standard for food safety.
