HDPE: new grades for pharma
At Pharmapack 2012, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) launched several new resins increasing its already substantial range of thermoplastics to meet the strict standards of the medical field.
They presented in particular a HDPE with high slip properties, able to reduce the cycle times in injection moulding of a series of products intended for the health sector. Named SABIC® HDPE PCG300054, it has a fluidity rate of 30 g/10 min and consequently facilitates processing with beneficial effects in economic terms. This resin is typically suited for the injection moulding of pieces with thin walls and long sliding parts, such as the pistons of disposable syringes, of pharmaceutical and medical packaging caps and closures. The high fluidity of the material facilitates the complete filling of the mould and allows the production of forms with thin walls, that lead to quick cooling, enabling reductions in the time of the production cycle. It is a translucent material, with a good balance between rigidity and high level of resistance to cracking due to ambient stress, thus also ensuring good durability of the manufactured item.
