PepsiCo to acquire energy drink firm
PepsiCo has agreed to acquire US firm Rockstar Energy in a $3.85 billion deal aimed at intensifying its presence in the energy drinks category, a segment that has been growing steadily in the United States in contrast to the decline in soda consumption.
Founded in 2001, Rockstar sells its products in over 30 countries and is the third most widely sold energy drink brand in the USA behind the market leaders Red Bull and Monster.
Rockstar will now join PepsiCo’s energy drinks portfolio alongside the brands Kickstart, GameFuel and AMP Mountain Dew.
