Corepla: positive facts and figures for plastics
The segregated collection of plastic packaging also increased in 2017 (+ 11.7% on 2016), with a national average per capita collection going from 15.8 to 17.7 kg per inhabitant per year. And if Lombardy also put in the best performance in 2017, Puglia, Basilicata and Valle d’Aosta have made a significant leap forward.
Hence in 2017, 1,074,000 t was collected (+ 11.7% compared to 2016). This is a record for the sector, to be attributed to two factors:
- the South has improved its performance (while remaining below the national average, in Sicily collection doubled);
- there were also increases in “consolidated” areas such as Emilia Romagna, which increased from 18 to 22 kg per capita.
In 2017, Corepla granted the Municipalities or their delegated operators 310 million euros to cover the greater costs incurred in carrying out the segregated collection services of plastic packaging, of which over 562,000 tonnes were recycled.
