Steel packaging: CAC is decreased
Having considered the position of the Ricrea consortium, it was confirmed on 3 July that the CONAI board of directors has decided to decrease the environmental tax credit for steel packaging.
From the current 13.00 euro/ton, the CAC will be decreased to 8.00 euro/ton. The change will go into effect on 1 January 2018.
The move confirms the consortium system’s commitment to optimizing resources in order to contain costs for participating businesses (packaging producers and users), thereby safeguarding the collection of urban packaging waste throughout Italy, as well as the compensations to municipal governments provided for by the reigning ANCI-CONAI framework agreement.
2017 marks the 20th year since the establishment of the Ricrea consortium, which since 1997 has been committed to supporting the “endless value” of steel packaging. During these past 20 years, more than 5 million t of steel has been recycled and used to produce the same amount of new raw material.
