Ucima blocks China at international ISO level

Thanks to the action of the Union of Italian Automatic Packaging and Wrapping   Machine Manufacturers the Chinese proposal to establish a new international standardization committee on the pharmaceutical machines has been rejecteed: in fact it has prevented the establishment of a further standardization within ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for “Pharmaceutical preparation machinery”.

In May, through its regulatory agency SAC, China had in fact proposed the establishment of a regulatory committee of this type, proposing itself as secretary. This would have affected pharmaceutical packaging machinery, with serious repercussions on many aspects (technical requirements, safety aspects, the application of GMPs, etc.) already regulated by law in various geographical areas.
For this reason, in recent months, Ucima has countered the proposal, sensitizing the main European and international associations representing packaging machinery manufacturers and the main European and international standards organizations. Their action has been extremely effective, to the point where the Chinese proposal received 8 votes in favour, 7 against and 22 abstentions, thus not reaching the required threshold of 2/3 of members’ votes.
