The packaging industry – Data 2015
Production in the packaging industry in 2015 (final data) is seen to have risen by 2.3% compared to 2014. Foreign trade is also seen to be expanding, exports showing an increase of 2.9%, the increase in imports standing at 9.5%. Turnover is seen to have grown by 3.4%.
As indicated in the table, figures for aluminium packaging are growing significantly (+ 27%).
It should be emphasized that this abnormal increase is due to the “other” listing, where the three-digit growth is to be exclusively put down to the production policies of multinationals which in 2015 concentrated their production in Italy, subsequently exporting almost everything.
Flexible converter packaging put in a rise of more than 4%, due to its suitability over increasingly vast areas of use. Plastic packaging is seen to be up by 3% due to a greater volume of plastic from recycling.
Steel packaging, rigid laminated material and glass containers all show a rise of over 2%.
Cellulosic packaging put in an increase of 1.9%, while wood packaging rose by 0.8%
According to a preliminary analysis considering the close relationship of packaging with manufacturing, in 2016 production in the packaging industry is set to register an increase of 2%.
(*)The analysis refers to empty packaging units (production of empties - export of empties + import of empties = apparent consumption of empties). The total put on the market (for Conai pruposes) is calculated from apparent consumption of empties, by subtracting exports of full packaging, and adding imports of full packaging.
