“Dalla Buona Terra”
The strength and the value of a brand (Pedon) fully interpreted by a cardboard pack, masterfully made by Lucaprint.
«Evermore frequently we are involved by customers in the design of new cardboard packaging solutions in order to replace packaging with a greater environmental impact». The statement by Virgino Scalabrin, R&D head of Lucaprint finds broad confirmation in industrial practice because, now more than ever, to have the right appeal at the salespoint, product packaging as well as being communicative, has to be eco-sustainable.
This is echoed by Luca Zocca, marketing head at Pedon: «The environmental policy has become a distinguishing trait and an inevitable choice for the consumer, the company and retail distribution.
For its part, Pedon has always followed environmentally friendly policies, starting with using recycled paper for packaging finished products up to the progressive elimination of unsustainable materials in favour of others that are totally recyclable».
An ad hoc carton the packaging devised by the Veneto converter for Pedon’s “Dalla Buona Terra” line best expresses this shared vision. The result of consolidated cooperation between the two companies, the line is fully on target: obtain significant advantages in terms of communication and environmental sustainability.
And if from a communication point of view the carton in question evokes a “return to ones origins” approach, the health claims on the front exalt the nutritional contents of the product, while the properties of the legume and cereal are illustrated on the back, thus incentivating correct eating habits.
The strong earth colors the image chosen - a farm cart and a rural countryside - directly allude to the naturalness and wholesomeness of the product, evoking to the flavor and taste of genuine produce.
Eco-friendly quality In line with a concept of total ecosustainability and an integrated supply chain, Lucaprint along with Pedon have developed an extremely eco-friendly packaging, featured in the use of sustainable materials, guarantee of low environmental impact in relation to the volumes produced.
As well as eliminating the pouch that, usually contains the product inside the box, the board is completely recycled and FSC certified.
The window is in PLA, a starch based compostable polymer that enables the obtainment of a truly sustainable product without compromising the visibility of the contents: among the most interesting materials for the food packaging, it guarantees an aroma barrier, resistance to fats, transparency and excellent printability. With effects and functionality similar to PVC film, the PLA window is applied to the cardboard via the same process using water based glue.
These hence are the characteristics that make the “Dalla Buona Terra” packs 100% eco-friendly, competing in the food category for the Pro Carton Ecma Award 2014, an international competition for paper&board converters, the winners of which will be proclaimed October 18th at Sorrento. n
