Technology and emotion for face mask packaging

Sitma has made its expertise, machinery and workforce available for fully sustainable packaging of an initial batch of 12,000 paper face masks supplied by UPM Speciality Papers, a leading Finnish company in the sector with which it is collaborating on a number of R&D projects. The initiative has enormous emotional value as it aims to support the community of the town of Castelvetro (MO) while at the same time paying tribute to the company’s founder Aris Ballestrazzi, a victim of Covid-19.

“The project has enormous symbolic value,” explained Fabrizio Della Casa, general manager of Sitma. “I’m sure Aris Ballestrazzi would have been very proud. Sitma is a strongly international company and conducts most of its business abroad, but at the same time we have always maintained strong ties with the local area. At a time like this, it seemed only natural to offer our services and concrete support to the community.”

The Spilamberto-based company, which specialises in the construction of automatic machines and systems for the packaging and logistics sector, will deliver the batch of masks free of charge to the town of Castelvetro for distribution to residents in the next few days.

But along with its focus on the health emergency, Sitma is also highly committed to protecting the environment. The paper packaging can be easily recycled, as can the label attached to the packaging by a Bizerba machine. And the machine used for packaging the masks is sanitised before and after production to guarantee that the process is not only sustainable but also safe.
