Irplast Food Contact Tape launched in new and even greener versions

Irplast is expanding its range of adhesive Food Contact Tape with two even more eco-sustainable versions, one made of BOPP film with a reduced thickness (from 55 to 40 microns), the other with a soft-touch “paper-effect” matt surface.

The systems are specifically designed for the fruit and vegetable markets, which are constantly in search of innovative and eco-friendly branding solutions, especially for organic lines.

Food Contact Tape is a valid alternative to adhesive tapes and labels that are in direct contact with food but are printed on plastic materials such as PVC that no longer comply with standards. The product can also replace traditional pre-cut/die-cut labels.

Compared to polystyrene trays with a protective film, it reduces packaging weight by a factor of 15. This brings 96% savings in terms of Conai Eco-tax and also reduces logistics and transport costs (the solution is also much cheaper than traditional labels with liners).

As for production times, it helps companies reduce the time to market as it can be applied both manually and using automatic tapers. Thanks to bio-oriented polypropylene (BOPP), which is universally recognised as “100% designed for recycling”, the product has a much lower carbon footprint than other polyolefin substrate films. Moreover, the fact that it does not use paper-backed silicone means it is easily recyclable. Food Contact Tape complies with FDA, EU and Mercosur standards and satisfies the new directives on the limits of migration of substances from packaging to food.
