Cascades signs exclusive agreement for use of Respect technology in Canada
In early October, Canadian multinational Cascades signed an exclusive contract with Siropack for the use of its innovative Respect food packaging recycling technology in the country.
This revolutionary system provides a definitive solution to the problem of sealing mono-material APET trays by eliminating the PE sealing layer, making them 100% recyclable.
The tray edge cleaning treatment based on laser technology allows for the use of a less aggressive polyolefin-based glue that is perfectly soluble in boiling water and soda, the cleaning agents normally used in the plastic sanitisation process during waste separation.
The use of a soluble glue results in a totally mono-material product that can be assembled using existing packaging lines.
Leakage resistance tests have demonstrated compliance with ASTM D4991 with performance levels well above the minimum required standards.
This nine-year agreement will enable Cascades, a company with 12,000 employees and 50 years of experience in the recycling sector, to pursue the goals of decarbonisation and reuse of plastics laid out in its ambitious sustainability plan. The multinational ranks 17th among the world’s most sustainable corporations.
