Clear rPET and a plantable label for Aroma
Aroma, the new 100% recycled and recyclable clear PET bottle made by Gentlebrand’s Packaging Tailors, is a unique concept that has a positive impact on the closed-loop bottle-to-bottle recycling process.
Resulting from a complete rethink of the manufacturing system, Aroma is highly innovative in terms of its contents, as it is suitable for holding the flavoured waters that are now in strong demand among a certain target group of consumers, but above all it features a new concept of label, the most difficult part of the packaging to recycle.
Consumers rarely separate labels from the bottle prior to disposal, which inevitably leads to contamination of recycling streams with inks, glues and sometimes even the label’s constituent material.
The solution developed by Gentlebrand consists of a label printed with plant-based or food-grade inks and made of a special organic paper containing the seeds of the aromatic plants used to flavour the drinks. The paper can be placed in the ground to allow the seeds to germinate, creating a virtuous cycle.
The fact that the label is inserted onto the neck of the bottle without the need for glue further reduces the presence of waste materials in the plastic recycling stream. Consumers also perceive the label as a separate element, facilitating proper disposal. The label can easily be torn off and has plenty of space for all the legally required information along with marketing messages.
Aroma can be fully customised with highly detailed decorations and product descriptions thanks to the use of Supervent technology. Gentlebrand’s cooperation with its partners Competek and Sidel results in unlimited scope for customisation at low cost, making the solution economically viable.
