Coffee: special capsules up 14.3%
Competitive Data has done a study that summarizes and analyzes data on production, imports, exports and the Italian domestic market for coffee pods and capsules in the period 2012-2014, with forecasts up to 2016.
Exports increased by 11.3%, amounting to 364 million euros, and the domestic market increased by 6.9% (700 million euros).
The most interesting data regards the performance of the so-called household channel (largescale retail, boutiques, coffee specialists, door-to-door, internet, etc.), that is seen to be growing by 10.9% in volume and 14.7% in value, this because of growing greater importance off special capsules compared to pods and fap capsules. In turn sales of single portion coffee outside the home are down by 3.2% in volume where, however, there is the divergence between the office segment (OCS), which fell by 5.5% and horeca, that rose by 17.2%.
Among the various single portion coffee product categories hence special capsules have put in the best performance: + 14.3% in 2014. This is due to the significant expansion of shelf space in largescale retail, to the constant increase in the number of roasters “cloning” the capsules of leading companies, and the increase in the number of small specialty shops.
Own brand capsules are also now entering onto the market along with new players from other areas. (From “Comunicaffè”, Sept. 8, 2015).
