Conformity of the machine user manual
The new international legislation addressed in the training course organized by SBS - Scuola Beni Strumentali. On the table, in addition to the methods and the effectiveness of the instructions given, indications regarding cybersecurity and the responsibilities of the manufacturer.
Provide the necessary knowledge and insights to understand the contents of the new ISO 20607: 2019 “Safety of machinery - Instruction handbook - General drafting principles” published in June 2019, and of the new edition of the IEC 82079-1 standard “Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products - Part 1: Principles and general requirements”, revised in May.
This was the main purpose of the course organized last October 7th by SBS - Scuola Beni Strumentali, which offers training and consulting services to instrumental goods companies (see box).
A fundamental and necessary theme for the operation of all the technicians directly involved in drawing up the instruction manuals, which filled the conference room of Villa Marchetti (Baggiovara, MO) - Acimac and Ucima headquarters - to keep abreast of the new rules of conduct to be kept in the preparation of a documentation that involves all the phases of the life cycle of the machines.
The knowledge of the new ISO 20607: 2019, in particular, becomes fundamental as it will be precisely on the basis of this rule that, progressively throughout the world, the conformity of a machine user manual will be evaluated.
And at European level it will shortly be harmonized under the Machinery Directive, at that point guaranteeing the compliance of the documentation with the Essential Safety Requirements (ESR) provided.
In the chair, for the occasion, two authoritative names who personally participated in the preparation of the ISO 20607 standard: Ingegnere Ernesto Cappelletti of Quadra Srl and avvocato Giorgio Caramori of Studio De Capoa, both Federmacchine regulatory experts.
Many aspects have been evaluated and discussed, starting from the great novelty represented by the indications related to cybersecurity governing the safety aspects of the machines, but also the modalities and the effectiveness of the instructions, which will have to be evermore “unpackagable” and immediately referred to target groups of well defined users. The day also enabled to review the issue of the manufacturer’s responsibility for the conformity of the technical documentation of the machine, at the same time providing and analyzing concrete examples of “non-conformities” disputed by the control bodies. Which are not few, one only has to think that the non-conformities related to the instructions for use are among the most frequent in ministerial cases, second only to those associated with mechanical hazards related to the distances from the moving parts.
Due to the strong interest and wide influx of participants, SBS Scuola Beni Strumentali has already planned other editions of the course in the first few months of 2020, which will be more focused on practical application examples and practical advice for the drafting of truly effective manuals.
Why SBS
The training offer of SBS - Scuola Beni Strumentali is mainly aimed at companies with a strong propensity to export, to which it guarantees targeted training on national and international regulations which govern both the design of machines and plants for EU and extra EU markets, as well as international trade.
Born from the many years of experience and culture of various trade associations belonging to the Confindustria system (Ucima, Acimac, Amaplast, Anfima), which share all the specific problems with the companies and in the related technological sectors, the school guarantees a training proposal built on the specific needs of companies that make capital goods, thanks to the targeted selection of teachers and themes. The training projects can also be expanded to cover the professional needs of an organization, with tailor-made courses, accompanying people to acquire tools and methodologies to improve their skills, with the aim of accelerating the process of growth, development and business transformation. Continuous training, therefore, that involves all company departments, with strong knowledge of the relevant sectors.
