CORIMA opens a new facility

«A factory that opens is a safe haven in a rough sea. In an increasingly globalised and dematerialised economic scenario, Marchesini is today sending out an important signal of strength and commitment to the community, a message that extends from Monteriggioni to the whole world». This was expressed by Carlo Calenda, who spoke at the inauguration of the Corima Division plant, also recalling the importance of the continuity of investments in the Industry 4.0 theme, which are also fundamental for the Marchesini Group.

Hence 19 October last marked the official opening of the gates of the new  Siena factory of Marchesini Group’s division CORIMA, a Tuscany-based jewel of mechanical engineering specialising in machines for drug packaging in a sterile atmosphere.

The group’s president, Maurizio Marchesini and MP Carlo Calenda welcomed the more than 1,000 guests, along with the Group’s CEO Pietro Cassani, Director of the CORIMA Division Massimo Pannini, mayor of Monteriggioni Andrea Frosini, and Augusto Paolo Lojudice, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Siena.

The event featured a surprise show given by artists from the Mediaeval Cultural Re-enactment Association Agresto, which participates in travelling celebrations held in the most important town squares in Italy and Europe.

Yesterday. Founded in 1979 by Franco Neri, Aroldo Cappelletti, Dario Anatrini and Mauro Pometti, the company immediately established a prominent market position by launching its first vial filling and sealing machine. In 2003, with the acquisition of a majority stake in CORIMA, Marchesini became the first company in the world to produce complete lines for sterile product packaging, from the process itself through to palletisation. Five years later, in 2008, Marchesini opened the current facility currently undergoing extension, helping to make it one of the most innovative Italian companies in its sector in a success story that has been further sealed with this latest prestigious achievement.

Today. The €7 million investment has doubled the size of the CORIMA facility, adding an extra 6,000 square metres of factory floor and enabling the division to take on 30 new figures, among technicians and engineers. The aim of the investment is to enable CORIMA to respond even more effectively to the growing needs of a steadily-expanding sector driven by burgeoning demand for anticancer and other drugs in East Asia, particularly China. 

Sterile packaging remains a key segment for the expansion strategies of the parent company Marchesini Group, one of the world’s largest producers of drug packaging machinery.

This is confirmed by the numbers: in 2018, Marchesini posted revenue of €400 million, of which 85% was generated by exports with the contribution of CORIMA, which celebrated its 40th anniversary during the inauguration.
