MASTERPACK SpA with CKF INC.

What it is. Masterbio is a film from Masterpack's ECO-LOGIC product line, suitable for packaging fresh produce. Compostable, thanks to a special internal material it can be sealed on Earthcycle trays by CKF inc, made of wood fiber certified for food contact and compostable in their turn. The film also guarantees excellent peelability for easy opening.

Materials. TOP paper film + transparent internal material, 100% compostable; tray entirely made of wood fiber.

Product or target market. Easy-peal packaging for fresh vegetable products. Earthcycle trays are already in use, and very popular in North America.

Design and/or communication. Both the tray and the top paper, made of compostable cellulosic material, make the sustainability requirements of the pack immediately perceptible on the shelf. A register window on the top allows the consumer to see the product inside the container, while openings on the trays ensure proper breathability of the packaged product.

Technology. The film lamination process is carried out with compostable glues; the laser cutting process in register of the window can be realized in different shapes. The study of weldability on Earthcycle trays has allowed to find the most suitable structure to combine the technical requirements of compostability, the excellent welding performance with an attractive look.

Sustainability. The packaging is designed to be biodegradable in every part: the compostability of the film for the top is being certified, while the trays are already certified ok compost Home.
