Schur Flexibles Group advances in Italy with the acquisition of Sidac
Schur Flexibles Group is expanding its network in the Italian market by adding a strong centre of excellence for customised and high-quality packaging solutions. The Austrian group, a leader in the flexible packaging sector, has acquired from Orienta Partners 100% of the share capital of Sidac, a Forlì-based company specialising in the production of flexible packaging for food products (baked goods, coffee, pasta, snacks, freeze-dried products), labelling (shrink and roll-fed labels, stretch labels), detergents, cosmetics and pet food. Founded in 1929, Sidac has a workforce of 120 employees, a turnover of €34 million and an EBITDA of €5.1 million.
For Schur Flexibles, the acquisition marks an important step in its process of expansion in the Italian market, where the group sees significant growth opportunities.
Schur Flexibles, based in Wiener Neudorf, specialises in innovative, high-protection, tailor-made packaging solutions for the food and pharmaceutical sectors. With its integrated value chain, from extrusion, printing and laminating through to bag and pouch production, the Group generates sales of approximately €520 million and has around 1,900 employees and 22 production plants across Europe.
The two companies share a strong spirit of innovation and a focus on sustainable solutions, an area in which Schur Flexibles is channelling a significant proportion of its resources.
New eco-friendly materials for fresh food
As part of its strong commitment to the environment, Schur Flexibles has recently expanded its sustainable product portfolio with a range of high-barrier, puncture-resistant PE packaging that fully meets the safety requirements of fresh food.
For flow pack applications, Schur Flexibles has developed the high-efficiency MonoFlowre E-Type range, which is compatible with a wide range of packaging machines and offers various barrier options according to production requirements. Thanks to their innovative production process, these films provide enhanced puncture resistance and a very low sealing temperature.
Another new introduction to the portfolio is the VACUflexre MEX-T range of recyclable PE thermoforming films (an alternative to PA/PE films), which allow for high product protection together with good processability and printability.
